Getting to Know Tetris Blitz

We’ve spent a lot of time playing Tetris Blitz, a fun mobile game that puts a new spin on the traditional Tetris formula we know and love. With each play session lasting two minutes, we feel Tetris Blitz is the perfect fit for smartphone and tablet users who want to get their gaming fix while on the go. Plus, there are a bunch of cool features that add to the excitement, including game changing Power-Ups and Finishers.
With that in mind, here’s why Tetris Blitz belongs in your collection of must-have games!
Tetris Blitz is a fast-paced puzzle game available on iOS, Android, and Amazon devices. It’s free to download and play, and offers a variety of new ways to enjoy Tetris. Each match lasts two minutes, and includes the option to use different Power-Ups and Finishers to gain an edge. Both Power-Ups and Finishers can be equipped prior to beginning a match in Tetris Blitz.
Power-Ups are fantastic for boosting your score while the match is still ongoing. Meanwhile, Finishers are last minute score boosts used once the match has concluded to help you snag the highest score possible. The first thing you might notice with Tetris Blitz is that you can tap the different areas of the Matrix to indicate where you want each Tetrimino to fall.
In Tetris Blitz, simply tap where you want the Tetrimino to drop, and it’ll show you the outline and position of where the Tetrimino will land. The default smart controls called “One Touch” really makes Tetris Blitz great for new Tetris players because it’s easy to pick up and play.
However, if you prefer more of a challenge or simply like playing Tetris using standard swipe controls where you can rotate each Tetrimino into position before dropping it into place, you have the option to change the play settings to “Swipe” controls. Once you’re comfortable playing Tetris Blitz, you can experiment with the Power-Ups and Finishers, which include, among others, the following:
- Amplifier: This Power-Up gives you a score boost on any line clear that contains this Power-Up.
- Bombs: A Power-Up that unleashes a destructive tremor to shatter columns.
- Instant Replay: This Finisher goes back in time to replay your highest scoring move for a huge score boost.
- Inversion: This Finisher takes the empty portions of your Matrix and converts them into Minos for a massive score bonus.
- Lasers: Use this Power-Up to unleash powerful lasers that vaporize three random lines in your Matrix.
- Mino Rain: This Finisher rains down a shower of Minos for an end of game bonus.
- Nuke: This Power-Up creates a nuclear blast that shatters everything in your Matrix.
- Time Shift: Use this Power-Up to receive a five-second time bonus.
Of all the available Power-Ups in Tetris Blitz, my personal favorite is the Lasers Power-Up because it sends waves of lasers to clear random lines. It almost always gets me out of trouble, and usually results in a massive score multiplier. While playing, you’ll want to remember to equip all of your Power-Ups and Finishers before you start, otherwise you’ll be out of luck once the timer starts to tick down.
To do this, simply tap their respective locations on the screen before entering a new game. Furthermore, as you’re playing Tetris Blitz, you’re able to collect coins, which are used to purchase Power-Ups and Finishers. So, if you don’t have enough coins to get Power-Ups or Finishers in Tetris Blitz, you can always purchase additional coins from the in-game store.
Similar to the standard game of Tetris, in Tetris Blitz you’re able to see the next Tetrimino that will appear in your Matrix by looking at the Next Queue, which is located at the top right of the screen. But because of the added time element, you really feel like all of your decisions are crucial.

Plus, it’s great for people of all ages. You can even connect the game to your Facebook account. Doing this helps you rack up a few extra coins, and creates a leaderboard where you can compare your scores with your Facebook friends. Feeling competitive? Tetris Blitz has a “Battles” mode that lets you compete against your Facebook friends, or other Tetris players all across the globe.
Additionally, there’s a “Tournaments” mode in Tetris Blitz that lets you compete with other players in special, limited-time events. For example, Tournaments can include games with longer or shorter time limits, or games with faster drop speeds. Lastly, the effects in Tetris Blitz are superb for a mobile game. Everything is extremely vibrant and bright, and the Tetris Matrix really comes alive with each different Power-Up and Finisher.
